At MCA6, any student who has not achieved grade 4 in their GCSE English is provided with the opportunity and support to retake this qualification. Students are taught in a small group and the teacher focuses on the areas each individual needs to improve so that lesson time is really productive.

You will be assessed on your ability to select and retrieve information from a text, synthesise writer’s ideas, analyse their intentions and evaluate their success. You will also develop your writing skills in order to write effective fiction and non-fiction.


Qualification: Edexcel GCSE English Language

Entry requirements: Grade 3 or below in GCSE English Language

Assessment: You will carry out two papers and a speaking and listening exam (if you have not already sat and passed this component). Paper 1 focuses on 19th Century fiction and Paper 2 focuses on 20th and 21st Century Non-Fiction. You will receive a grade based on the Grade 1-9 scale.

Progression Route: University, apprenticeship or employment in all sectors.
